About the Content Refresh Planner
Upload or paste a Search Console Pages export that compares two periods, or two Pages exports, one for each period. The tool finds pages losing clicks, pages losing position, pages with more impressions but fewer clicks, and pages with no clicks. It ranks them by clicks lost and gives each one action: update the content, rewrite the title and description, merge it into another page, or leave it for now. Add the dates your pages were last updated to see which ones have not been touched for a year. You also get a refresh checklist built on Google's people-first questions. Every threshold is our own measure, worked out with fixed rules and arithmetic, not AI. It runs in your browser: the exports are not uploaded.
How it works
-
01
In Search Console, open Performance › Search results, compare two periods in the date filter, open the Pages tab and export it.
-
02
Upload the CSV or paste the table, and add the last updated date of your main pages if you have them.
-
03
Work down the plan from the most clicks lost, use the refresh checklist on each page, then download the CSV or copy the plan.
How pages are sorted
A page is losing clicks when its clicks fall by 20% or more and by at least 3 clicks; losing position when its average position is 1 place or more lower; and a CTR problem when impressions rise by 10% or more while clicks fall by 10% or more. The plan is ordered by clicks lost. A page with no clicks is matched with a page that shares most of its URL words and gets more clicks, as a possible merge. These are our measures, not Google's.
Refresh, do not just re-date
Google's people-first questions ask whether you change page dates to make them seem fresh when the content has not substantially changed, and whether you add or remove lots of pages to look fresh; Google says that will not help. A real refresh fixes facts, adds first-hand detail and answers what readers search for now. Then change the date and the sitemap lastmod, and ask Google to recrawl the page with URL Inspection.
What this tool cannot do
It sees only the pages in your exports, and each export holds up to 1,000 rows. It cannot tell why a page lost clicks: a change in demand, a festival season, new competitors or a change on the results page all look the same in these numbers. It does not read your pages, so merge suggestions come from URL words only. Check each suggestion before you act on it.
Frequently asked questions
How do I export two periods from Search Console?
Open Performance › Search results, select the date filter, open Compare, pick two periods of the same length (for example the last 3 months against the previous 3 months) and apply. Open the Pages tab and export it. You can also export each period separately and use "Two exports".
Why compare with the same months last year?
Many Indian businesses have seasons: Diwali and wedding season for shops, admissions for coaching classes, summer for travel. A page about a festival will drop after it, which is normal. Comparing the same months last year shows whether the page really lost ground. Search Console keeps 16 months of data, so this comparison is possible.
Should I change the date when I update a page?
Only when the content has substantially changed. Google lists changing dates to make pages seem fresh, without substantial changes, as a sign of content made for search engines rather than people. After a real update, change the visible date and the sitemap lastmod; Google says lastmod should reflect the last significant change.
When should I merge two pages?
When two pages cover the same topic and one gets nearly all the clicks, a single stronger page usually serves readers better (our suggestion). Move anything useful into the stronger page and permanently redirect (301) the old URL to it. Do not redirect many old pages to the home page.
How soon will a refreshed page recover?
There is no fixed time. After the update, use URL Inspection in Search Console and select Request indexing; Google says crawling can take from a few days to a few weeks, and asking again does not speed it up. Judge the change a few weeks later, comparing periods of the same length.
