Read what the guide says

This is the Duplicate and Doorway Page Checker.

Compare your city or service pages and find copies that only swap the area name.

Paste each page's main text or HTML with its name or URL,

or add the pages as text or HTML files.

Or press Try an example to fill in sample details.

Add your area names and any text meant to be the same on every page,

such as booking steps.

Read the pairs, the matrix and what is unique on each page,

then fix the pages at the top of the to-do list.

It runs in your browser, so nothing you type is uploaded.

Try it free on this page.

Runs in your browser. Your pages are not uploaded, and the tool does not visit any site.

Your pages

2 to 20 pages, such as your city, area or service pages. Paste each page's main text, or its HTML: menus, headers, footers and forms in HTML are left out.

Separate with commas. Helps the tool spot pages where only the area name changes.

One sentence or block per line, such as your booking steps or address block. It is left out of the comparison.

How the comparison works

Each page is cut into runs of 5 words. Two pages that share a run share that wording. The figures are our measure: Google publishes no similarity limit. The tool does not use AI and does not rewrite your pages.

Paste two or more pages to compare them

You get the shared text for every pair, pages that only swap the area name, what is unique on each page and what to do. Or press Try an example.

About the Duplicate and Doorway Page Checker

Paste the text or HTML of 2 to 20 of your pages, such as city, area or service pages. The checker compares every pair by the 5-word runs they share, finds pages that are the same text with only the area name changed, shows the shared passages and what is unique on each page, and suggests what to do with each. It runs in your browser: your pages are not uploaded, and it uses fixed rules, not AI, so it never rewrites your text.

How it works

  1. 01

Paste each page's main text or HTML with its name or URL, or add the pages as text or HTML files.

  2. 02

Add your area names and any text meant to be the same on every page, such as booking steps.

  3. 03

Read the pairs, the matrix and what is unique on each page, then fix the pages at the top of the to-do list.

How the comparison works

Each page is cut into runs of 5 words. When two pages share a run, they share that wording. A pair's figure is the share of one page's runs that are also on the other, the higher of the two. High (60% or more), medium (30% to 59%) and low are our bands: Google publishes no similarity limit. Pages that match once the few words found on only one of them are set aside are flagged as the same page with the area swapped.

What Google says about doorway and duplicate pages

Google's spam policies describe doorway abuse as pages created to rank for specific, similar searches that lead people to pages less useful than the final destination, with "pages targeted at specific regions or cities that funnel users to one page" as an example. Duplicate content on its own is not a violation of Google's spam policies, its SEO Starter Guide says, but it can be a bad experience and wastes crawling. Google picks one URL as canonical.

What this tool cannot do

It compares only the pages you paste with each other: it does not fetch your site, search the web for copies of your text or know how Google ranks your pages. It cannot judge whether a page is useful to your readers; it shows where pages repeat each other. The figures and bands are our measure, not Google's.

Frequently asked questions

Is duplicate content a Google penalty?

Google says having duplicate content on your site is not a violation of its spam policies. It can be a bad experience for visitors and waste crawling, and Google picks one URL to show. Pages made to rank for similar searches with little value of their own, such as city pages that only swap the name, are different: Google calls that doorway abuse.

What percentage of duplicate content is acceptable?

Google publishes no percentage. This tool's bands (high at 60% or more, medium from 30% to 59%) are our measure to help you sort pages. Short shared blocks, such as booking steps or an address, are normal. What matters is whether each page gives the reader something the others do not.

Can I have a separate page for each city or area I serve?

Yes, where each page is useful for that place: a branch, the team there, local work, prices or timings. Google's doorway examples include pages targeted at specific regions or cities that funnel users to one page. Pages that differ only in the city name fit that description, so list those areas on one page instead.

Should I use a canonical tag or a redirect for duplicate pages?

If two URLs show the same content and you need only one, redirect the copy to the main URL with a 301 redirect. If both must stay, add rel="canonical" on the copy pointing to the main URL. Google treats both as strong signals, but a canonical is a hint, not a rule, and Google may choose another URL.

Does it work with Hindi pages?

Yes. It splits Hindi (Devanagari), English and Hinglish text into words without breaking Devanagari letters, so mixed pages compare correctly. It compares the pages you paste with each other only; it does not search the web for copies of your text.
