About the Service Area Page Planner

Enter your services and the areas you cover, and tick what is true for each area: a branch there, work you can show, or different prices, timings or team. You get a page plan: one page per service, one per branch, an area page only where there is something real to say, and one "areas we serve" page for the rest, with titles, URLs and what each page needs. It runs in your browser.

How it works

  1. Step 1

Enter your business, what you are, your city and how you serve customers.

  2. Step 2

List your services and areas, then tick what is true for each area.

  3. Step 3

Download the plan as a CSV, and write each page from its "what the page needs" list.

Why not one page per area?

Google's spam policies describe doorway abuse as pages created to rank for specific, similar searches that lead users to pages less useful than the final destination. One of its examples is "pages targeted at specific regions or cities that funnel users to one page". A page for every service in every area, with only the area name changed, fits that description.

Service areas on your Business Profile

If you go to customers, Google asks you to remove your address from your Business Profile and enter service areas instead: up to 20, by city, postal code or area. Google says the overall area should be no more than about 2 hours' drive from where you are based, though larger areas suit some businesses.

What this tool cannot do

It plans pages; it does not write them or check how they rank. Whether an area deserves its own page depends on what you can truthfully say there, so the plan follows your ticks. Google publishes no number of location pages that is too many: what matters is whether each page helps the people who land on it.

Frequently asked questions

Should I make a separate page for every area I serve?

Only where you have something specific to say: a branch, work you have done there, or prices, timings or a team that differ. Otherwise, name the area on one "areas we serve" page. Pages that only swap the area name look like the doorway pages Google's spam policies describe, and they tell a customer nothing your service page does not.

What should a location page have?

A branch page needs that branch's own address, phone number and opening hours, a map and directions, photos of the place and the team, the services offered there, and LocalBusiness markup with that address. An area page without a branch needs real local detail instead: jobs or customers there, travel time and visit charges, and links to your service pages.

How many service areas can I add to my Google Business Profile?

Up to 20, set by city, postal code or area rather than a radius. Google says the overall area should be no more than about 2 hours' drive from where your business is based, though larger areas can suit some businesses. Your website can still name every area you cover on its "areas we serve" page.

Is it doorway spam to have pages for different cities?

Not if each page is genuinely useful for that city: a real branch, a local team, local work, or different prices and timings. Google's doorway examples include pages for regions or cities that funnel users to one page, and substantially similar pages that read like search results. Pages that differ only in the city name are the risk.

What URL structure should local pages use?

Keep it simple and consistent, such as /pune/kothrud for a branch or area page and /dental-implants for a service page; the planner suggests URLs in that pattern. Whatever pattern you choose, link the pages to each other: service pages to the areas page, area pages back to the services, and the home page to both.
