About the Bulk Catalogue Editor

Open your product file: a Shopify or WooCommerce product export, a Google Merchant Center feed or any spreadsheet saved as CSV, up to 5,000 rows. The tool matches its columns (title, description, SKU or ID, product group, prices, brand, GTIN, image and page links) and checks every row: missing or repeated titles and SKUs, titles over 150 characters or written in capitals, promotional words such as "free shipping", prices that are not plain numbers, a crossed-out price that is not higher than the price, GTINs with a wrong check digit and image links that do not start with https://. Then fix many rows at once: find and replace, add text, tidy spaces, fix capitals, remove promotional words or symbols, shorten titles or fill empty cells, on all rows, rows with one issue, rows containing a word or rows you tick. Every edit can be undone, Reset brings back the file as it was, and the download keeps your columns and their order. It runs in your browser: nothing is uploaded and it does not sign in to your shop.

What the checks are based on

The length limits come from Google's Merchant Center product data specification: up to 150 characters for a title, 5,000 for a description and 50 for an id. Google also asks you not to write titles in capitals, other than for brand names, and not to put promotional text such as "free shipping" or sale details in titles and descriptions; the word list and "mostly capitals" are our checklist, shared with the Merchant Center Feed Checker. A crossed-out MRP, regular or compare-at price should be higher than the price buyers pay, and Merchant Center needs a sale price lower than the regular price. A GTIN must have 8, 12, 13 or 14 digits with a valid check digit.

How Shopify and WooCommerce files are read

In a Shopify product export, rows with the same handle are one product: its title, description and vendor sit on the first row, each variant has its own row, and extra photos get rows that hold only the handle and the image link. The tool reads product details from a product's first row and does not ask for a title or price on photo rows; Fill empty cells leaves product details off variant rows. In WooCommerce exports and Merchant Center feeds, the sale price is the price buyers pay and the regular price is the crossed-out one, so they are matched that way round. You can change any column match.

What this tool cannot do

It edits the file you give it; it does not sign in to Shopify, WordPress or Merchant Center, so you import the file yourself. When you import an edited export to update products, keep the columns as they are: Shopify clears values in blank columns on a re-import and makes new variant IDs when option values change, so try a few products first. It does not check images, categories, shipping or tax, and it does not rewrite titles or descriptions for you. Cells starting with =, +, - or @ get an apostrophe in the download so spreadsheet apps do not run them as formulas.

Frequently asked questions

Which files can I open?

Any product list saved as CSV or tab-separated text with a header row: a Shopify product export, a WooCommerce product export, a Google Merchant Center text feed, or your own spreadsheet. Up to 5,000 rows are read; for a bigger catalogue, split the file. If your sheet is in Excel or Google Sheets, save or download it as CSV first.

How do I find duplicate SKUs in a Shopify export?

Open the export and click "Same SKU or ID on two rows": the table shows every row whose SKU is used again. Change the SKUs in the table or with Find and replace, then download the file. Repeated or missing SKUs make stock and feeds hard to manage, and Merchant Center needs a unique id for every product.

How long should a product title be?

Merchant Center reads up to 150 characters of a title, so put the words shoppers search for first: what the product is, then brand, material, colour or size. Use Shorten to a length to cut long titles at a word boundary, then read them again: a cut title may lose its point.

Will my edits change anything in my shop?

No. Everything happens in this browser tab and nothing is sent anywhere. Your shop changes only when you import the downloaded file. Import two or three products first and check them, because an import can overwrite products that share a handle or SKU.

Can I undo a bulk edit?

Yes. Undo last edit reverses the most recent change, one at a time, and Reset to the file as it was brings back the file exactly as you opened it. The list under the edit panel shows each change and how many cells it touched. Edits are not saved if you close the tab, so download the file when you are done.
