How to use the AI Content Freshness Checker

Read what the guide says

This is the AI Content Freshness Checker.

It checks the dates, old years and outdated statistics on a page.

AI assistants and readers prefer current information; older pages drop out of answers.

Use it when the facts change, and at least once a year on pages you want cited.

Type the address of your page.

Here, it's a sample article from a made-up dental clinic.

You can add a competitor page on the same topic to compare. Then press Check freshness.

You get a freshness score from our checklist, and every date we found.

Here, readers see an updated date, but the schema and sitemap show none.

Start with Do these 2 things first.

Here, the structured data has no dates, and one statistic is from 2022.

Open How to fix to see why it matters and the steps.

Find a newer source for each old figure. Replace the figure and the year, and link to it.

Statistics to update lists each old figure. Remove any you can't update.

Then add these blocks with the real date. Changing only the date does not help.

There's a Last updated line, schema dates, and a What changed section to fill in.

Publish the update, then check the page again.

Show the new date in the page, the structured data and the sitemap together.

You can also email yourself a PDF of the result.

About the AI Content Freshness Checker

AI assistants and readers prefer current information, and older pages slowly drop out of answers. Enter a page and we check every freshness signal: the updated date readers see, dates in meta tags, structured data and the XML sitemap, a past year in the title, statistics and studies from years ago, mentions of recent years and products that were renamed or shut down. Add a competitor page to compare. You get what to update and ready-made blocks to add.

How it works

  1. Step 1

Enter your page, and optionally a competitor page on the same topic.

  2. Step 2

We read the page, its structured data and its sitemap entry, and look for dates, years and statistics.

  3. Step 3

You get a freshness score, the statistics to replace, and copy-ready blocks for the update.

Fresh content, not fresh dates

Changing the date without changing the content does not help and can mislead readers. Update the facts, figures and examples first, then show the new date in the page, the structured data and the sitemap together.

What counts as old

Statistics or studies from three or more years ago, a past year in the title, and dates over a year old. For fast-moving topics such as AI search, update more often.

Frequently asked questions

How often should I update a page?

When the facts change, and at least once a year for pages you want cited. Pages about prices, tools and rules need it more often.

Why does the sitemap date matter?

Search engines use lastmod to find pages that changed. If the sitemap still shows an old date, a refreshed page can take longer to be crawled again.

Can it write the new content?

It gives you blocks to fill in: a visible "Last updated" line, dateModified markup, a "What changed this year" section and a change log.
