Tool kit, 8 steps in order

Get a local business found online: free tools, step by step

Eight free tools in the order we suggest using them when a local business wants nearby customers to find it. You start with the Business Profile, plan and check the pages on your website that are about your services and areas, add LocalBusiness markup, give customers a quick way to get in touch, then ask for reviews and answer them. Every tool works on what you type, paste or point it to.

Who it is for: Shops, clinics, restaurants and service businesses that want nearby customers to find them on Google.

The steps

The order is our suggestion. Skip a step you have already done, or come back to one later.

  1. Step 2: Local & reviews

    Service Area Page Planner

Before you write a page for every town or area, plan which ones have enough to say for a page of their own and which belong on one "areas we serve" page.

Then: Use the plan's titles and URLs to write or tidy the pages, starting with your services and branches.

  2. Step 3: Local & reviews

    Local Landing Page Checker

Check each branch, service or area page for what a nearby customer and a search engine look for: LocalBusiness markup, a phone number to tap, the address, hours and the area it names.

Then: Fix what the check flags, and compare the name, address and phone it found with your Business Profile.

  3. Step 4: On-page & content

    Schema Markup Generator

If a page has no LocalBusiness markup yet, fill in a short form to get ready-to-use JSON-LD, with a live check for missing fields.

Then: Add the code to the page, then check the live page with the Local Landing Page Checker again.

  4. Step 5: Free tools

    WhatsApp Link & QR Generator

Give customers who find you a quick way to get in touch: a click-to-chat link with the first message typed, a QR code and a chat button for your website.

Then: Add the link and button to your website and social profiles, and print the QR code for your counter, menu or packaging.

  5. Step 8: Local & reviews

    Google Review Inbox

Once reviews come in, paste them to see the themes customers mention, which to answer first and the ones that may break Google's policies.

Then: Answer the reply-first list, and act on the themes that come up again and again.

Frequently asked questions

Which of these tools work without a website?

The Business Profile checklist, the Service Area Page Planner, the WhatsApp link tool and the review reply templates work without one. The Local Landing Page Checker needs a page address, and LocalBusiness markup goes on your own pages, so those steps wait until you have a site.

Should I make a page for every area I serve?

The Service Area Page Planner suggests a page of its own only for an area where there is something real to say, such as a branch, work you can show, or different prices, timings or team, and one "areas we serve" page for the rest. If you already have city pages, the Duplicate and Doorway Page Checker finds copies that only swap the area name.

Do I have to follow the steps in this order?

No. The order is our suggestion. If your profile is already in good shape, start with the step you need, or answer three questions in the tool finder for a shorter list.
