Meta Ad Policy Checker: check Facebook and Instagram ad text before review

Check ad text for claims and words Meta may reject, with rewrites and a special ad category answer.

For Facebook Instagram

How to use the Meta Ad Policy Checker

Read what the guide says

This is the Meta Ad Policy Checker.

Check ad text for claims and words Meta may reject,

with rewrites and a special ad category answer.

Paste the primary text, headline and description, and choose your business category,

who will see the ad and the button. Or press "Try an example" for a gym's weight-loss ad.

Or press Try an example to fill in sample details.

Add the landing page link and tick what the image or video shows: before-and-after pictures,

people's bodies, or an audience that includes people under 18.

Fix the likely rejections first, copy the suggested rewrites, check the special ad category answer,

and tick off the pre-flight checklist before you publish.

It reads the words you paste and the boxes you tick.

It runs in your browser, so nothing you type is uploaded.

Try it free on this page.

  • Free to use
  • Runs in your browser
  • No sign-up

Runs in your browser. Your ad text is not uploaded.

Decides whether a special ad category is needed.

Characters are counted as letters, spaces and emoji, one each. Meta does not say how it counts.

Not opened. Only the address is checked.

What the image or video shows, and who sees it

Meta makes the final decision

This is an automated pre-check against Meta's published Advertising Standards and ASCI's rules. Meta reviews every ad, including its images, targeting and landing page. Text that passes here can still be rejected, and flagged text may be approved.

Hinglish and Hindi phrases we look for

Our own list of common risky claims, matched in English, Hinglish (Hindi in Latin letters) and Hindi. Some examples:

  • Weight loss by a date: "lose 10 kg in 7 days", "7 din mein 5 kilo kam", "7 दिन में 5 किलो वजन कम".
  • Cures: "100% cure", "jad se khatam", "जड़ से खत्म", "रामबाण".
  • Money promises: "guaranteed returns", "paisa double", "पक्का मुनाफा", "ghar baithe kamao".
  • Personal questions: "Are you overweight?", "kya aap mote hain", "क्या आप मोटे हैं".
  • Guarantees and "best": "selection pakka", "sabse best", "सबसे सस्ता".

Word lists miss some phrasing and catch some harmless text, so read each finding.

Paste your ad text to check it

Add the primary text, headline and description, choose your category and tick what the image shows, or press "Try an example".

About the Meta Ad Policy Checker

Paste your Facebook or Instagram ad's primary text, headline and description, choose your business category and button, add the landing page link, and tick whether the image shows before-and-after pictures or people's bodies. The tool marks words and claims that Meta's Advertising Standards do not allow, or allow only with conditions: personal attributes, weight-loss promises, cure claims, guaranteed returns, betting, alcohol and more, plus claims ASCI expects you to prove. Each finding is labelled likely rejection, needs care or our suggestion, with the reason, the rule it comes from and a rewrite where the fix is safe. It also tells you whether you need a special ad category and gives you a pre-flight checklist. It reads English, Hinglish and Hindi, runs in your browser, does not open your landing page and never signs in to Meta. Meta reviews every ad and makes the final decision.

Where the rules come from

From Meta's Advertising Standards in its Transparency Center and from Meta Business Help: personal attributes, health and wellness, unacceptable business practices, financial and insurance products, alcohol, dating, online gambling and games, adult content, sensational content, special ad categories and ads about social issues, elections or politics, including the SEBI verification Meta needs for securities and investments ads shown in India. Rules on claims come from ASCI: its code, its education guidelines and its complaint decisions on weight-loss and cure claims. Each finding links to its page.

How the severity works

Severity is our measure. "Likely rejection" means the text matches something Meta's standards say ads must not contain, such as asking "Are you overweight?" or promising kilos lost by a date, or needs written permission that most advertisers do not have. "Needs care" means it is allowed with conditions, such as an 18+ audience, a licence, verification or proof for a claim. "Our suggestion" is good practice, not a Meta rule. The word lists in English, Hinglish and Hindi are ours.

What this tool cannot do

It reads the words you paste and the boxes you tick. It cannot see your images or video, does not open your landing page, and cannot know your account history, targeting or permissions. Word lists miss some phrasing and flag some harmless text. Meta reviews every ad, usually within 24 hours, and can review it again after it goes live, so text that passes here can still be rejected. It is a pre-check, not legal advice.

Frequently asked questions

Why was my Facebook ad rejected?

Meta's review can look at the ad's text, images, video, targeting and landing page. Common problems under its standards include saying or implying something personal about the viewer, exaggerated health or money claims, before-and-after images in weight-loss ads, and restricted products shown without the right permission or age limit. When an ad is rejected, you can edit it, make a new one or request another review.

Can I say "Are you overweight?" in a Facebook ad?

No. Meta's personal attributes policy does not allow ads that assert or imply things such as a person's health, weight, age, religion or money troubles, and a question aimed at the viewer implies it. Talk about your offer instead, for example "Join our 8-week fitness plan".

Do I need a special ad category for a loan, job or property ad in India?

Meta requires the financial products and services, employment and housing special ad categories for ads that target the United States, Canada or certain parts of Europe. For an ad shown only in India, choose None. Loan, credit card and insurance ads still need an 18+ audience, and securities and investments ads shown in India need SEBI verification in Meta Business Suite.

Are before-and-after photos allowed in Instagram ads?

Not to show idealised results in diet, weight-loss and health ads, and before-and-after transformations for cosmetic products, procedures and surgeries are restricted. ASCI has also upheld complaints against before-and-after pictures without verifiable data. Show a real session or the service being given instead.

Does the tool check my images or landing page?

No. It checks the text you paste and the boxes you tick, in your browser, and nothing is uploaded. It does not open your landing page or sign in to Meta. Use the Meta Ad Specs Checker for image and video sizes, and make sure the landing page shows the same offer as the ad.
