How to use the Pinterest Business Account Checklist

Read what the guide says

This is the Pinterest Business Account Checklist.

Tick through your Pinterest business account,

from profile and website claim to rich Pins and the tag.

Open your Pinterest business profile next to this page,

and say whether you sell products online and plan to run ads.

Or press Try an example to fill in sample details.

Tick each item that is done,

and type your username and About text to check them against Pinterest's limits.

Start with the do-these-first list,

then copy the to-do list or print the checklist for your team.

It runs in your browser, so nothing you type is uploaded.

Try it free on this page.

  • Free to use
  • Runs in your browser
  • No sign-up
Do you sell products online?
Do you run Pinterest ads, or plan to?

Runs in your browser. It does not sign in to Pinterest, so open your profile next to this page and check each item there. Your ticks stay on this device.

Show

Each item says whether it comes from Pinterest's help centre or developer docs (with a link) or from our checklist. Some of Pinterest's help pages are a few years old, so a setting may sit somewhere slightly different in the app.

Open any of our browser tools, such as the GST Calculator.

Below the tool, find Embed this tool on your website, and open it.

Press Copy code.

The code is a frame with the tool in it, plus a short credit line that links to the tool's page.

In your website's editor, add an HTML block where you want the tool, and paste the code.

In WordPress, that's the Custom HTML block.

If the tool needs more room, change the height in the code.

Publish the page, and the tool works on your site.

Here, it's on a sample page for a made-up sweet shop.

Visitors use it right there. It sets no cookies, and sends nothing they type to us.

The credit line under it links to the tool on DigitalSnot.

You can embed as many of our free browser tools as you like.

About the Pinterest Business Account Checklist

A checklist for a Pinterest business account, in four groups: the account and profile, your website, boards and Pins, and analytics and security. Each item gives Pinterest's own rule from its help centre or developer docs, with a link, or says it is our checklist. Type your username and About text to check them against Pinterest's limits, say whether you sell products online or plan to run ads, and you get your progress, a do-these-first list, a to-do list to copy and a page to print. Ticks stay in your browser, and the tool never signs in to Pinterest.

Pinterest's own rules, with links

A business account is free, and converting a personal account keeps your Pins and followers. A username can be 3 to 30 characters of letters, numbers and underscores, and the About text up to 500 characters. A profile cover should be at least 800 × 450 pixels, ideally 16:9. Claiming your website gives you analytics for Pins from your site and puts your profile picture on them, and it is needed for catalogues. Each item links to the Pinterest page it comes from.

Rich Pins, the tag and catalogues

Pinterest's developer docs still describe three kinds of rich Pins: article, product and recipe, built from Open Graph or schema.org markup on your pages. The Pinterest tag has a base code for every page and event codes for actions such as add to cart, checkout, lead and sign-up; a Conversions campaign needs at least one of those four. Catalogues need a business account, a claimed website, the tag and a product feed. Items that only matter for shops or ads are shown when you choose them.

What this tool cannot do

It is a checklist, not a connection to your account: it cannot see your profile, test your website claim or check your tag. The progress is our measure of how much of the checklist you have ticked, not a score from Pinterest, and it does not predict reach. Some Pinterest help pages are a few years old, so a menu may sit somewhere slightly different in the app. We could not confirm from Pinterest Help whether catalogues are offered for India, so check the country list when you add a product feed.

Frequently asked questions

Is a Pinterest business account free?

Yes. Pinterest says a business account is free and gives you analytics on your Pins and the option to run ads. You can convert a personal account: your Pins and followers stay, and you can switch back. A business account is public, so a private account must be made public first.

How do I claim my website on Pinterest?

Pinterest offers four ways: connect Google Merchant Center (only some accounts), add an HTML tag to your pages, upload an HTML file to the top folder of your site, or add a TXT record to your domain's DNS, which can take up to 72 hours. You must own the domain and be able to edit its code, so shops on marketplaces such as Amazon or Etsy cannot be claimed. One website can be claimed by one Pinterest account.

Do rich Pins still work?

Pinterest's developer docs, checked in October 2026, still describe article, product and recipe rich Pins. You add Open Graph or schema.org markup to your pages, and Pins saved from those pages show the extra details. Follow the developer docs for the current steps, and check a few of your Pins after setting it up.

Do I need the Pinterest tag if I do not run ads?

Our suggestion: add it if you sell online, because Conversion insights uses page visit, add to cart and checkout events, and catalogues need the tag. If you plan a Conversions campaign, Pinterest needs at least one of sign-up, lead, add to cart or checkout events. On Shopify, Pinterest suggests its app, which adds the tag for you.

Does this tool connect to my Pinterest account?

No. It never signs in to Pinterest and cannot see your profile. You check each item in Pinterest and tick it here. Your ticks, username and About text are saved only in this browser, so you can come back to them, and nothing is uploaded.
