How it works
-
Open your photos, or choose a colour background, and type a headline. Or try the example.
-
Pick a layout, add the list, labels or offer it asks for, your brand and website, and choose colours and a font. Move or darken the photo if the text is hard to read.
-
Read the checks, then download the pin as PNG or JPEG, or look at the variations and save them all as a ZIP to test which design works.
About the Pinterest Pin Maker
Open one or more photos from your device, or use a colour background, and type a headline. Pick one of six layouts (big title, title band, list, before and after, step by step or offer), your colours and a font, and the pin is drawn at the 2:3 size Pinterest recommends, 1000 × 1500 pixels, with your brand and website small at the bottom. The tool checks that the text stands out from what is behind it and how big it looks in a phone feed, makes variations from the same photos so you can test designs, and saves one pin as PNG or JPEG or all of them as a ZIP. It runs in your browser: your photos are never uploaded, and it never signs in to Pinterest.
The size and the layouts
Pinterest Help recommends a 2:3 shape, or 1000 × 1500 pixels, as PNG or JPEG, and says pins taller than 2:3 may be cut off in feeds, so every pin is exactly 1000 × 1500. Pinterest's creative best practices suggest the key message near the top, the picture in the middle and details at the bottom, with a short text overlay that is easy to read and your logo or colours shown without crowding the message. Most of the layouts follow that order; the step by step layout puts the photo first.
Readable text, measured
The tool reads the pixels behind each line of text and works out the contrast, using the 4.5:1 level for text and 3:1 for large text in W3C's WCAG as our measure. It also works out how tall the text looks when a pin is about 180 pixels wide in a phone feed (our measure), flags a headline of more than 10 words (our measure) and warns when a photo is enlarged so much it may look soft. On the offer layout it asks for dates and conditions, and flags words such as "best" or "last chance", following the ASCI code and the CCPA's guidelines. This is not legal advice.
What this tool cannot do
It does not sign in to Pinterest, publish pins or add their titles, descriptions and links: you upload the images yourself. It does not edit or retouch photos or remove backgrounds, and it uses no AI; the layouts are drawn in code. Photos stay in the open tab and are not saved, so open them again next time. We could not confirm where Pinterest's own buttons sit over a pin, so the pins keep a plain margin round the text (our measure).
Frequently asked questions
What size should a Pinterest pin be?
Pinterest Help recommends a 2:3 shape, or 1000 × 1500 pixels, as PNG or JPEG, up to 20 MB on a computer and 32 MB in the app. Pins taller than 2:3 may be cut off in feeds. Every pin this tool makes is 1000 × 1500.
How much text should go on a pin?
As little as gets the message across. Pinterest's creative best practices ask for a short text overlay that is easy to read. The tool flags headlines over 10 words (our measure) and text that would look smaller than about 8 pixels in a phone feed (our measure).
Why make several versions of the same pin?
Pins in different layouts, photos or colours can do differently with the same audience, and your own results are the best guide. The variations let you save several versions in one go, as a ZIP, to post over time and compare in your Pinterest analytics.
Can I use a photo that is not tall?
Yes. Each photo is cropped to fill its part of the pin, and the position slider chooses which part to keep. A small photo may look soft when enlarged; the tool warns you when it is enlarged more than 1.5 times (our measure).
Are my photos uploaded anywhere?
No. Your browser opens the photos, draws the pins and makes the downloads and the ZIP on your device. Photos stay in the open tab and are not saved; the text fields are kept in this browser so they are filled in next time. Nothing is sent to our server or to Pinterest.
