How to embed a free tool on your website

Want one of our free tools on your own website?

Here's how to embed it, in about a minute.

Open any of our browser tools, such as the GST Calculator.

Below the tool, find Embed this tool on your website, and open it.

Press Copy code.

The code is a frame with the tool in it, plus a short credit line that links to the tool's page.

In your website's editor, add an HTML block where you want the tool, and paste the code.

In WordPress, that's the Custom HTML block.

If the tool needs more room, change the height in the code.

Publish the page, and the tool works on your site.

Here, it's on a sample page for a made-up sweet shop.

Visitors use it right there. It sets no cookies, and sends nothing they type to us.

The credit line under it links to the tool on DigitalSnot.

You can embed as many of our free browser tools as you like.

How it works

  1. Choose an image or drop it on the box. Large photos are fine: the crop is made from the full-size original.

  2. Pick the platform and the size, then drag the picture inside the frame and zoom until the right part shows. "Fit whole image" keeps everything and fills the space around it with a colour you choose.

  3. Choose JPG or PNG, check the file size, and download. The file name says the platform and the size, such as sharma-sweets-instagram-portrait-1080x1350.jpg.

About the Social Image Cropper

Choose a photo or graphic, pick the platform and the size, then move and zoom the picture inside the frame until the right part shows. You get a JPG or PNG at the exact pixel size, its file size, and a warning when it is over the limit the platform publishes. Guides show YouTube's banner safe area, the parts of a Stories ad to keep clear of text, and a round preview for profile photos. It runs in your browser: the image is never uploaded.

The sizes, and where they come from

Instagram Help supports photo shapes from 1.91:1 to 4:5 at 1080 pixels wide, so we offer 1080 × 1080, 1080 × 1350 and 1080 × 566. Meta asks for at least 1200 × 630 for link images, and Facebook Help gives 851 × 315 for a fast-loading Page cover. LinkedIn Help recommends 4200 × 700 for a Company Page cover, 1584 × 396 for a personal cover and 400 × 400 for a profile photo or logo. X Help recommends 1500 × 500 for a header and 400 × 400 for a profile photo. YouTube Help recommends 3840 × 2160 for a video thumbnail and 2560 × 1440 for a channel banner, and Pinterest recommends 1000 × 1500 for a pin. For Stories we use Meta's recommended size for Stories ads, 1080 × 1920.

Why the shape matters

Each app shows an image in a set shape. When yours does not match, the app crops it, and the app decides where to cut: Instagram crops photos outside its supported shapes, Pinterest may cut off pins taller than 2:3 in feeds, and LinkedIn may trim a Company Page cover. Cropping it yourself lets you choose what stays in, such as a face, a price or your logo.

What this tool cannot do

It does not post anything, and it cannot show exactly how each app will crop or shrink the image on every phone and computer. Platforms change their layouts and sizes from time to time, so check the platform's help page before a big campaign. It does not check your text, faces or colours, and enlarging a small image cannot add detail, so we warn you when the picture is enlarged. The image stays on your device: your browser reads it, crops it and saves the new file.

Frequently asked questions

What size should an Instagram post be?

Instagram Help supports photo shapes between 1.91:1 (landscape) and 4:5 (portrait), at 1080 pixels wide. So use 1080 × 1080 for a square post, 1080 × 1350 for a portrait post or 1080 × 566 for a landscape post. Photos wider than 1080 pixels are scaled down to 1080, and photos in other shapes are cropped to fit, so crop them yourself first.

What size is a YouTube thumbnail?

YouTube Help recommends 3840 × 2160 pixels (16:9), at least 640 pixels wide, as JPG or PNG. The file can be up to 2 MB from the mobile app and up to 50 MB from a computer. If your 3840 × 2160 file is over 2 MB and you upload from your phone, lower the JPG quality or use our 1920 × 1080 option. A Shorts thumbnail is 2160 × 3840 (9:16), and custom thumbnails need a verified account.

What size is a LinkedIn company cover?

LinkedIn Help gives 4200 × 700 pixels (6:1) as both the minimum and the recommended size for a Company Page cover, as PNG or JPEG, up to 3 MB. LinkedIn says the cover may be trimmed, so keep key details central. A personal profile cover is different: 1584 × 396, JPG or PNG, under 8 MB.

Why does my Facebook link image look cropped?

Meta asks for a link image of at least 1200 × 630 pixels, a 1.91:1 shape, for the best display on high-resolution devices. An image in another shape has to be fitted into that shape, so parts of it can be cut off. Crop it to 1200 × 630 here, set it as the og:image of the page, then check the preview with our Link Preview Checker.

Is my image uploaded?

No. Your browser reads the image, crops it and saves the new file on your device. The image is not sent to our server, so we never see or keep it. The example image is drawn in your browser too.
