Instagram Carousel Splitter: cut one wide image into seamless slides

Cut one wide image into 2 to 10 slides that join without a gap when people swipe, and save them as a ZIP.

For Instagram Facebook

Read what the guide says

This is the Instagram Carousel Splitter.

Cut one wide image into 2 to 10 slides that join without a gap when people swipe,

and save them as a ZIP.

Open your wide image or drop it on the box,

or press "Try an example". Choose portrait or square slides.

Or press Try an example to fill in sample details.

Pick the number of slides, or leave it on Auto.

Swipe through the preview and read the checks,

then download the ZIP and post the slides in order, slide 01 first,

choosing the same shape in the app.

It runs in your browser, so nothing you type is uploaded.

A panorama, a banner or a design made to run across slides. JPG, PNG or WebP, or drop it on this box.

Runs in your browser. Your image is never uploaded.

Each slide is 1080 pixels wide, in a shape Instagram Help supports. One post can hold up to 20 photos and videos; this tool makes 2 to 10 slides, the number Meta allows in a carousel ad.

Slide shape
Number of slides

Auto picks the number that fits your image's shape best (our measure).

Fit

Fill cuts off what does not fit; fit keeps it all and adds bands of colour.

Save as

JPEG for photos, PNG for graphics with small text (our suggestion).

Shaded bands where faces and words would be split between slides. The guides are never saved in the files.

Open a wide image to cut it into slides

You get the whole strip with its cut lines, a swipe preview and the slides to download, numbered in posting order. Or press Try an example.

How it works

  1. Open your wide image or drop it on the box, or press "Try an example". Choose portrait or square slides.

  2. Pick the number of slides, or leave it on Auto. Choose whether to fill the slides or fit the whole image, move the position slider to keep the right part, and keep faces and words out of the shaded bands.

  3. Swipe through the preview and read the checks, then download the ZIP and post the slides in order, slide 01 first, choosing the same shape in the app.

About the Instagram Carousel Splitter

Open one wide image, such as a panorama, a shop banner or a design made to run across several slides, then choose portrait 1080 × 1350 or square 1080 × 1080 slides and how many you want, from 2 to 10. The tool draws the image once as a long strip and cuts it on exact pixel lines, so the slides join without a gap when people swipe. You see the whole strip with guides by each cut, a swipe preview, and checks for sharpness and for what is cut off. Then download the slides one by one or in a ZIP, numbered in posting order. It runs in your browser: the image is never uploaded, and the tool does not sign in to Instagram.

How seamless slides work

A seamless carousel is one picture spread across several slides: as people swipe, each slide carries on where the last one ended. That only works if every slide is cut at exactly the right pixel. This tool draws your image once at full size, as one long strip of 1080-pixel slides, and copies each slide out of that strip, so the edge of one slide meets the edge of the next with nothing lost or repeated. The slides are new files drawn from the pixels, so the photo's EXIF data, such as the camera and location, is not copied.

The sizes and where they come from

Instagram Help supports photo shapes from 1.91:1 to 4:5 at 1080 pixels wide, so the slides are 1080 × 1350 (portrait) or 1080 × 1080 (square), sizes Instagram keeps as they are. Instagram Help also says one post can hold up to 20 photos and videos, that the shape you choose applies to every photo in the post, and that the first photo is the one shown in Feed and on your profile grid. Meta's design specifications for carousel ads allow 2 to 10 cards, recommend square cards and take JPG or PNG files up to 30 MB, so this tool makes 2 to 10 slides as JPEG or PNG.

What this tool cannot do

It does not post to Instagram or sign in to your account, and it cannot show exactly how every phone will display the slides: the swipe preview is ours. The shaded bands by each cut, the suggested number of slides and the warnings about enlarging and cutting off are our suggestions and measures, not Instagram rules. It cuts one image into equal slides; to crop a single photo, use the Social Image Cropper, and to plan the order of separate posts, use the Instagram Grid Planner. The image is not saved, so open it again next time.

Frequently asked questions

What size should seamless Instagram carousel slides be?

Make each slide 1080 pixels wide: 1080 × 1350 for portrait (4:5) or 1080 × 1080 for square. Instagram Help supports shapes from 1.91:1 to 4:5 at up to 1080 pixels wide, so slides this size keep their size. For five portrait slides, the whole image should be at least 5400 × 1350 pixels so it does not have to be enlarged.

How many slides can an Instagram carousel have?

Instagram Help says a post can hold up to 20 photos and videos. This tool makes 2 to 10 slides from one image, which also fits a Meta carousel ad: Meta allows 2 to 10 cards and recommends square ones. The more slides you cut a panorama into, the narrower the part each slide shows, so check the swipe preview.

Why does my carousel show a line or a jump between slides?

A line or a jump usually means the slides were cut at slightly different points, resized one by one, or cropped by the app to another shape. This tool cuts every slide from one strip on exact 1080-pixel lines. When you post, choose the same shape as your slides, portrait or square, because Instagram Help says the shape you choose applies to every photo in the post.

Will the slides look sharp?

Only if your image has enough pixels. Five portrait slides need an image at least 5400 × 1350 pixels; a smaller image has to be enlarged, which makes it look soft. The tool tells you how much it enlarges your image and when fewer slides would help (our measure).

Is my image uploaded?

No. Your browser opens the image, draws the slides and saves the files and the ZIP on your device. Nothing is sent to our server or to Instagram, and the example image is drawn in your browser too. Only your choice of shape, number of slides and format is remembered in this browser.
