How to use the Cited Content Pattern Analyzer

Read what the guide says

This is the Cited Content Pattern Analyzer.

It shows what kind of pages AI answers cite for a topic, and how yours differs.

Use it before you write, to find out what already gets cited for your topic.

Cited pages for one question often share a format, like a comparison table.

Ask an AI assistant your buyers' question, and copy the pages it cites.

Paste them one per line. These are sample pages of made-up clinics.

Four to six give clearer patterns. Two is the minimum.

Add your own page and the topic, if you like.

Then press Analyze patterns.

The summary shows the most common format, and where your page differs.

The score is our own measure, not Google's.

This chart shows their formats: here, two of the four are pricing guides.

Below is what the cited pages have in common.

This table puts your page next to them.

Do these first lists the gaps that matter most.

Open How to fix to see why it matters and the steps.

So restructure it as a pricing guide, or make a new page in that format.

Keep your own experience and data: match the format, not the words.

You also get a six-week plan, in the formats that get cited.

Each piece lists what it needs to match them.

When you've updated your page, check it again.

You can also email yourself a PDF of the result.

About the Cited Content Pattern Analyzer

Before writing, find out what already gets cited. Ask ChatGPT, Perplexity or Google the question your buyers ask, copy the pages the answer links to, and paste them here. We classify each one (list, how-to, comparison, review, data study, definition, pricing guide, FAQ, case study, tool or service page) and measure length, sections, question headings, tables, figures, sources, author, freshness and extractability. You see the patterns they share, how your page differs, and a six-week plan of pieces in the formats that win.

How it works

  1. Step 1

Ask an AI assistant your buyers' question and copy 2 to 6 of the pages it cites.

  2. Step 2

Paste them one per line, and add your own page and the topic if you like.

  3. Step 3

You get each page's format and measures, the common patterns, your gaps and a content plan.

Patterns, not copying

Cited pages for one question often share a format, such as comparisons with a table or short definitions with examples. Matching the format and the depth, with your own experience and data, works better than imitating any one page.

How formats are detected

From the title, URL, headings, structured data and content measures: numbered headings suggest a list, "vs" a comparison, many figures and tables a data study. Pages can have more than one format; the strongest is shown first.

Frequently asked questions

Where do I find the cited pages?

Ask the question in ChatGPT search, Perplexity, Gemini or Google AI Overviews and open the sources each answer links to. Use pages that answer the same question you want to be cited for.

How many pages should I add?

Four to six give clear patterns. Two is the minimum.

Why add my own page?

To see where it differs from the cited pages on format, depth, structure, data, author and freshness, with what to fix first.
