About the Shipping Weight and Box Size Calculator

Enter the size of your packed box in centimetres or inches, its actual weight, and the volumetric divisor and weight slab from your marketplace or courier rate card. The tool works out the volumetric weight, the chargeable weight (the higher of the two, rounded up to your slab) and, when the box size decides the price, the smaller box that would be charged on weight instead. Add a row for each product or box, add your slab prices to see the cost, and download a CSV. It runs in your browser: nothing is uploaded and no seller account is connected.

How the weights are worked out

Volumetric weight is length × width × height in centimetres divided by the divisor you enter, in kilograms; inches are converted at 2.54 cm each first. The chargeable weight is the higher of the volumetric and the actual weight, rounded up to your slab. The saving from a smaller box is the gap between that and your actual weight rounded up to the slab, because no box can make a parcel cheaper than its own weight. All of this is our maths on your numbers.

Why you enter the divisor

Marketplaces and couriers set their own divisor, slabs and prices, and they can differ by service and change over time, so the tool does not guess them. Copy the divisor and slab from the rate card in your seller account or from your courier, and check that it measures in centimetres and kilograms. If your rate card gives a weight per cubic metre instead, the divisor is 1,000,000 divided by that number.

What this tool cannot do

It does not know your marketplace's or courier's rates, and it does not sign in to Seller Central, Seller Hub, the Meesho supplier panel or a courier account. Couriers may round measurements, weigh parcels again or add charges that are not counted here. The box sizes it suggests come from the maths alone: check that your product fits, with padding, before you order new boxes.

Frequently asked questions

What is volumetric weight?

It is a weight worked out from the size of a parcel instead of a scale: length × width × height divided by a number called the divisor. The tool compares it with the actual weight and takes the higher of the two as the chargeable weight. Check that your rate card works the same way, and use its divisor.

Which divisor should I use?

The one in your marketplace or courier rate card, for the service you use. The tool does not fill one in, because divisors differ between companies and services and can change. The example uses 5,000 only to show how the tool works. Your rate card should show the formula as length × width × height divided by a number, with its units.

What does rounding up to the slab mean?

If your rate card prices weight in steps, called slabs, such as every 0.5 kg, a parcel is charged for the whole step it falls into: with 0.5 kg slabs, 1.1 kg is charged as 1.5 kg. Enter your slab size and the tool rounds up the same way. Leave it empty and the weights are not rounded.

How does a smaller box save money?

When the volumetric weight is higher than the actual weight, you pay for the box size, not the product. A box whose volumetric weight is no more than the parcel's own weight slab is charged on weight instead. For each box the tool shows the height that gets there with the same length and width, and a table of the largest box for each slab, so you can see how many slabs a change saves.

Does this work for Amazon, Flipkart and Meesho shipping?

It works with any rate card that uses length, width, height and a divisor, as long as you enter that rate card's divisor, slab and prices. It does not know which shipping programme you use, and it never signs in to your seller account, so check the figures against your fee reports.
