How it works
-
Fill in your shop and complaint details, then where and how fast you deliver and what it costs, then cash on delivery, failed deliveries and damage, and finally your prices, payment, cancellations and warranty. Press Try an example to see a sample shop.
-
Read the two drafts as they build. Anything still missing shows as a marked gap, such as "[number of] days"; fill it in from the form.
-
Open Checks and fix what is flagged, then copy both documents to your shop and link to them in your footer and at checkout.
About the Shipping Policy and Terms of Sale Builder
Answer questions about your shop, where and how fast you deliver, delivery and cash on delivery charges, failed deliveries, damage in transit, payment, cancellations and complaints. The tool turns your answers into two documents in short numbered sections: a shipping and delivery policy, and terms of sale. Copy them as text, HTML or Markdown, download or print them. It also checks them against the Consumer Protection (E-Commerce) Rules, 2020 and our checklist: seller details, a grievance officer and complaint times, delivery and payment information, cancellation charges, boxes ticked in advance and blanket lines such as "not responsible for delays". It uses fixed templates, not AI, and runs in your browser: your answers are saved only in this browser.
What goes into the two documents
The shipping and delivery policy covers where you deliver, dispatch time and cut-off, delivery estimates by area, couriers, delivery charges and any free delivery threshold, cash on delivery and its fee, tracking, delays and lost parcels, failed deliveries and returns to origin (RTO), damage in transit and orders from abroad. The terms of sale cover who the seller is, prices and GST, ways to pay, when an order is accepted, cancellations, delivery, returns, warranty, personal data and a grievance officer with your complaint times. Wording such as refunding a lost parcel in full is our template.
Where the checks come from
The Consumer Protection (E-Commerce) Rules, 2020 ask every e-commerce entity to show its legal name, address, website and customer care contacts (rule 4(2)), to appoint a grievance officer and show their name, contact details and designation (rule 4(4)), and to acknowledge complaints within 48 hours and resolve them within one month (rule 4(5)). They bar cancellation charges unless the business bears similar charges when it cancels (rule 4(8)), and say consent must come from an explicit action, not pre-ticked boxes (rule 4(9)). They also ask for information on delivery and shipment and on modes of payment. The CCPA's 2023 dark patterns guidelines list drip pricing and basket sneaking. Other checks are our checklist, and each check says which it is.
What this tool cannot do
It is not legal advice and cannot tell you everything the law needs from your shop; ask a lawyer to read the final documents. It does not know your courier's real delivery times or charges, so use your own figures. For orders on Amazon.in, Flipkart or Meesho, the marketplace's own policies apply; these documents are for your own shop. The tool never signs in to your shop or seller accounts and does not publish anything.
Frequently asked questions
Do I need a shipping policy and terms of sale?
The Consumer Protection (E-Commerce) Rules, 2020 ask e-commerce entities to show their legal name, address, website and customer care and grievance officer contacts, and to give information on delivery and shipment, modes of payment, returns and grievance redressal. A shipping policy and terms of sale are a clear way to do that. Google Merchant Center also asks for shipping costs for free listings in India. Ask your lawyer what else applies to your shop.
Can I charge buyers for cancelling an order?
The E-Commerce Rules say an e-commerce entity shall not charge consumers who cancel after confirming a purchase, unless it also bears similar charges when it cancels the order on its own (rule 4(8)). If you add a charge, the terms say you pay the buyer the same amount when you cancel a confirmed order yourself, and the checks still ask you to confirm the wording with your lawyer.
What should the policy say about failed deliveries and RTO?
A return to origin (RTO) is a parcel that comes back because it could not be delivered. The template explains how many times the courier tries, what happens to prepaid and cash on delivery orders, and whether you keep back the delivery charge on a prepaid refund. Our suggestion: if you keep it back, say so at checkout too, so it is not a surprise.
Should my prices include GST?
If you are registered for GST, the terms say your prices include it and show your GSTIN. Section 32 of the CGST Act says a person who is not registered shall not collect tax, so the terms then say you do not charge GST. Packaged products also need their MRP shown inclusive of all taxes under the Legal Metrology rules. Ask your CA about your own case; this is not tax advice.
Are my answers saved or uploaded?
Your answers are saved only in this browser, so they are back when you return, and nothing is uploaded. The documents are built with fixed templates, not AI. Press Clear to remove the saved answers.
