About the Local Campaign Launch Wizard
Fill in four short steps: your business, where your customers are and when you are open; your services with their prices and pages; the enquiries you want and what a sale is worth; then review. The wizard gives you a complete plan for your first Google Ads Search campaign: the settings to choose, locations, ad schedule, budget with GST, conversion values and a bid strategy, conversion tracking for calls, forms and WhatsApp, ad groups and keywords, starter negative keywords, one responsive search ad per service, sitelinks, callouts and a call asset, a pre-launch checklist and the first 30 days. Download it as a Google Ads Editor file, copy it as text or print it. It runs in your browser and never signs in to Google Ads.
How it works
-
Step 1
Fill in your business, areas and opening hours, then your services, the enquiries you want, your sale value, margin and monthly budget, or press "Try an example".
-
Step 2
Check the review step, then read the plan below it: each setting says whether it is Google's rule, our suggestion or from your answers.
-
Step 3
Download the Google Ads Editor file, set up conversion tracking, tick off the pre-launch checklist, launch, and follow the first 30 days list.
One plan built from our Google Ads tools
The wizard uses the same logic as our other tools, so the plan is consistent with them: the Lead Value Calculator for what a lead is worth, the budget maths for the daily budget and 18% GST, the Location Targeting Planner, the Bid Strategy Selector for a new campaign with no history, the Call Conversion Planner for call tracking and opening hours, the Editor Bulk Builder for ad groups, keywords and the Editor file, the Negative Keyword Conflict Checker's starter lists, and the Assets Builder's checks.
Google's rules and our suggestions
Limits and settings come from Google Ads Help: 30-character headlines and 90-character descriptions, a budget that can spend up to twice its daily amount on one day and 30.4 times it in a month, search partners on by default, no language setting for Search campaigns since September 2026, ad schedules in the account's time zone, and location assets from a linked Business Profile. Choices such as starting without search partners and the Display Network, phrase and exact match, and the ad text are our suggestions, and the plan says so.
What this wizard cannot do
It cannot see your account, search volumes, competitors or real costs, so the cost per lead and budget figures are our maths from your own numbers, not a forecast, and no plan can promise results. The ad lines are templates filled with your words: correct anything that is not true for you, as Google's review decides what runs. Google changes settings and screens often, so check each step in your account.
Frequently asked questions
How much should a local business spend on Google Ads?
Start from what a lead is worth to you. The wizard works out a value per lead from your average sale, profit margin and how many enquiries become customers, then the most a lead should cost if you keep a share of the profit. Your monthly budget divided by 30.4 gives the average daily budget, and 18% GST is added on the invoice.
Which bid strategy should a new campaign use?
If conversion tracking works, Maximize conversions lets Google learn from the leads it records while there is no history to set a target from. Without tracking, Maximize clicks is the usual start. Our suggestion is to add a Target CPA once the campaign has about 15 conversions in 30 days.
Should I turn on search partners and the Display Network?
Search partners are on by default when you create a Search campaign, and you can turn them off at any time. The Display Network option lets a Search campaign also show on websites and apps. Our suggestion for a first local campaign is to start with Google Search only, so the first month is easier to read.
Do I still choose a language for a Search campaign?
No. Since September 2026 Google has removed the language setting from Search campaigns and matches Search ads by the language of the ads and of the search. Write your ads in the language your customers search in.
How do I get the plan into Google Ads?
Download the Google Ads Editor file and, in Google Ads Editor, choose Account › Import › From file, check the headers, keep the proposed changes and post. Set the networks, locations, ad schedule and bid strategy in Editor or Google Ads, as the file does not hold them, and add the negatives, sitelinks and callouts from their own files.
