About the Google Ads Script Generator
Type the email address for your alerts, tick the checks you want and set their limits. You get ready-to-paste Google Ads scripts: a spend alert, an alert when the account or a campaign stops getting impressions, a list of keywords or campaigns with clicks and no conversions, a broken final URL check and a weekly list of search terms that cost money with no conversions. Every script only reads data and sends email. The scripts are built in your browser.
How it works
-
Step 1
Type one or more email addresses, and a campaign name filter if the alerts should cover only some campaigns.
-
Step 2
Tick the scripts you want and set their limits: spend amounts, hours without impressions, clicks without conversions, the number of URLs to check and the period.
-
Step 3
Copy or download each script, then add it in Google Ads under Tools, Bulk actions, Scripts: authorise it, preview it and set how often it runs.
What the scripts do
Each script asks Google Ads for a report with the Google Ads Query Language, compares the numbers with your limits and emails you what needs a look. The broken URL check opens each enabled ad's final URL and lists the ones that return an error. Settings sit in a short block at the top of each script, so you can change a limit later without touching the rest. We wrote the scripts ourselves; they are not copies of Google's samples.
Read-only by design
None of the scripts changes bids, budgets, keywords, ads or settings: they only read data and send email. That makes them safe to preview. In Preview, Google Ads does not change anything, but email is not part of that, so the alert email is sent and its subject starts with "[Preview]". Values you type are written into the script as plain text, so a name with quotes cannot break the code.
What this tool cannot do
It cannot install the scripts for you or see your account, and it never signs in to Google Ads. A script in a single account stops after 30 minutes, so the URL check works in batches. The checks do not cover Performance Max asset groups or Performance Max search terms. The limits and suggested schedules are our suggestions, so set them from your own account.
Frequently asked questions
How do I add a script to Google Ads?
In Google Ads, click Tools, open Bulk actions and choose Scripts. Click the + button and choose New script, name it, delete the starter code and paste the script. Click Authorize when asked, which each script needs once. Then click Preview, check the logs, save and set the frequency. The steps are the same for every script this tool makes.
Are these scripts safe to run?
They only read your account's data and send email; there is no code in them that changes bids, budgets, keywords, ads or settings. You can read every line before you paste it. Preview does not change anything in your account, but it does send the email, so expect an alert marked "[Preview]" while you test. Authorise each script only in an account you manage.
How often should the scripts run?
Google Ads lets you run a script hourly, daily, weekly or monthly. Our suggestion: the down alert hourly, the spend alert and the broken URL check daily, and the zero-conversion and search terms reports weekly. A script run hourly emails you every hour while the problem lasts, so pick daily if that is too much.
Why did the down alert not email me at night?
You tell it the hours your ads normally run, and it only checks when every hour it looks at falls inside them, so an ad schedule that pauses ads at night does not set it off. It also skips the current hour, because Google aims to update clicks, impressions and cost within about an hour. Use 0 and 24 for ads that run all day.
Can the broken URL check test every link in my account?
It checks the final URL of each enabled ad in enabled campaigns and ad groups, up to the number you set each run, because Google stops a script in a single account after 30 minutes. It does not cover sitelinks, keywords or Performance Max asset groups. For those, Google's free Link Checker script checks ad, keyword and sitelink URLs over several runs.
