This is the Google Ads Link Checker.

It finds broken final URLs in your ads, sitelinks and keywords.

Use it before your ads go live, or when an ad is disapproved for "Destination not working".

Paste your final URLs, or drop an ads, assets or keywords export from Google Ads.

Here, we press Try an example: sample ads for a made-up clinic.

It also ticks the gclid test, which checks that redirects keep Google's click ID.

Your export is read in your browser. Only the page addresses go to our server.

Here, two links need fixing, and six work.

Start with this box. Number one: a page that does not exist, used by an ad and a keyword.

Number two: a tracking template pasted in place of a final URL.

Open How to fix to see why it matters and the steps.

Why it matters: every click that leads to an error page is wasted.

Restore the page, or change the final URL to a working page.

Then check it again here, and appeal any disapproved ads in Google Ads.

Below, you see every ad, keyword and sitelink that uses a broken link.

Further down, 'gclid kept' means the test passed. Tracking tags are listed too.

Download the CSV, make the changes, and check again.

You can also email yourself a PDF of the result.

One address per line, or drop a CSV here. Exports from the Ads, Assets or Keywords page and Google Ads Editor files work: we read every Final URL and Mobile final URL column and note which ad, keyword or sitelink uses each address.

Your export is read in your browser. Only the page addresses are sent to our server, which opens each one like a visitor.

Getting your final URLs

  1. 1 In Google Ads, open the Ads page (or Assets for sitelinks, or Search keywords) and pick the campaigns you want.
  2. 2 If the Final URL column is missing, add it with the columns icon › Modify columns.
  3. 3 Click the download icon above the table, choose CSV and drop the file here. A Google Ads Editor export works too.

Your link check appears here

Paste final URLs or drop an export, then press Check links. Or try the example: a dental clinic in Pune with ads, keywords and sitelinks.

About the Google Ads Link Checker

Paste the final URLs from your ads, sitelinks and keywords, or drop an ads, assets or keywords export from Google Ads. Your file is read in your browser: the tool keeps one copy of each address, notes which ads and assets use it, and flags addresses that are not valid before anything is fetched. Only the addresses go to our server, which opens each page like a visitor and reports the status, where it ends up after redirects, http or https and the response time, with what to fix first.

How it works

  1. Step 1

In Google Ads, open the Ads, Assets or Keywords page, show the Final URL column (columns icon › Modify columns), click the download icon and choose CSV. Or copy your final URLs, one per line.

  2. Step 2

Drop the file or paste the list. Tick the gclid test to see whether your redirects keep Google's click ID, then press Check links.

  3. Step 3

Fix the broken links first: restore the page, redirect it to the right page or change the final URL. Download the CSV, make the changes and check again.

What it checks, like Google's Link Checker script

Google publishes a Link Checker script for Google Ads that goes through your ads, keywords and sitelinks and reports "Page not found" and other error responses. This tool does the same kind of check without signing in to your account: it opens each final URL and mobile final URL exactly as written, follows the redirects, and reports the status, the final address, the number of redirects and how long our server waited.

Tracking parameters and ValueTrack

Each address's parameters are listed: UTM tags, a gclid and ValueTrack placeholders such as {campaignid} or {keyword}. Google fills ValueTrack placeholders in only when it serves the ad, so we fetch them as written. {lpurl} belongs only in a tracking template, so an address that contains it is flagged as a template pasted in place of a final URL. The optional gclid test adds Google's test value, gclid=TesTER-123, and checks that redirects keep it.

What this tool cannot do

We open each address from our server, not as Google's AdsBot or from a phone, so a site that blocks automated checks can look broken here and work for visitors, or the other way round. We do not run tracking templates, read the page content or review Google's policies, and the slow and too-many-redirects flags are our measure. Up to 100 addresses are checked per run, 20 at a time.

Frequently asked questions

Why are my ads disapproved for "Destination not working"?

Google disapproves ads when the landing page cannot be reached or returns an error, such as 404 page not found, 403 or a 500 server error, when its AdsBot crawler visits. A typo in the final URL, a removed page, a bad redirect, a redirect loop or a server that blocks crawlers are common causes. Fix the page or the final URL, check it loads, then appeal so Google reviews the ad again.

Can a final URL redirect to another domain?

Usually not. Google Ads Help says you may not use cross-domain redirects in your final URL, and the destination mismatch policy allows them only in certain cases with Google's prior approval. A redirect needed for click tracking belongs in the tracking template, which must lead to the same page as the final URL. Put the page's real address in the final URL.

What is the difference between a final URL and a tracking template?

The final URL is the address of the page people reach after they click your ad, also called the landing page. A tracking template holds tracking information and must contain a parameter such as {lpurl}, which Google replaces with the final URL when someone clicks. A template pasted into the final URL field is not a working page address, which is why this tool flags it.

Do redirects on my landing page affect conversion tracking?

They can. With auto-tagging, Google adds a gclid to your landing page address. If your site redirects and drops it, the click cannot be linked to later conversions. Google suggests a simple test: add ?gclid=TesTER-123 to the address, load the page and check the parameter is still there, unchanged. Tick the gclid test in this tool to run it on every address at once.

Why does a link work in my browser but fail in this checker?

Some sites and firewalls refuse automated requests or treat them differently, so our server may get a 403 or 429 where you see the page. Google's policy notes the same for its AdsBot crawler: a page can load for you while crawlers get errors. If that happens, ask your developer or host to make sure Google's crawlers are allowed, then test again.
