About the YouTube Upload Planner

Choose how many long-form videos and Shorts you want to publish each week, on which days, and for how many weeks. Add your industry and state, and the planner places festival videos before the Indian festivals and events that matter for your business, each with a topic idea, and works out when to script, shoot and edit every video. Download the plan as a calendar file or CSV. It runs in your browser and never signs in to YouTube.

How it works

  1. Step 1

Choose the start date, how many weeks to plan, how many long-form videos and Shorts a week, and your upload days.

  2. Step 2

Pick your industry and state to add festival videos, and change how early they go out and how long each production step takes.

  3. Step 3

Download the plan as a calendar file or CSV, then schedule each video in YouTube Studio when it is ready.

Festival videos, placed early

Festival and event dates come from our Seasonal Content Calendar: Government of India holiday lists and Drik Panchang, with each date rated for your industry. The planner gives each festival video the upload slot closest to the number of days before the festival you choose, 14 by default, which is our suggestion, and suggests a topic for it. Regional festivals appear only for the states that celebrate them.

Script, shoot and edit dates

For every upload, the planner works back from the publish date to the days by which the script, the shoot and the edit should be done. The default lead times are our suggestion, longer for long-form videos than for Shorts, and you can change them. YouTube Studio lets you schedule a video to publish at a set date and time, so you can upload as soon as the edit is done.

What this tool cannot do

It plans dates; it does not know your audience, see your channel or upload anything. For the best time of day, check the "When your viewers are on YouTube" report in the Audience tab of YouTube Analytics. Festival dates go only as far as our calendar data, which we extend each year when the Government of India publishes its holiday list, and some lunar dates can differ by a day between calendars.

Frequently asked questions

How often should a business post on YouTube?

YouTube does not set a number. Our suggestion: choose a pace you can keep up for months, such as one long-form video and two or three Shorts a week, rather than bursts followed by long gaps. The planner shows what that pace means in scripts, shoots and edits each week, so you can check it is realistic.

What is the best time to upload a YouTube video?

It depends on your viewers. In YouTube Analytics, open the Audience tab and look at the "When your viewers are on YouTube" report, then schedule your videos in YouTube Studio to publish at a set date and time around then. This planner sets the days; the report tells you the hour.

How early should I post a festival video?

Our suggestion is about two weeks before the festival, while people are still planning and buying, and you can choose anything from 0 to 60 days. For the festivals that matter most to your industry the planner uses a long-form slot, and for smaller ones a Short. If a festival is too close, it flags the video so you can start it now.

How long can a YouTube Short be?

Up to 3 minutes, in a square or vertical shape, for Shorts uploaded from 15 October 2024. A video in the 16:9 shape stays a regular long-form video, whatever its length. The planner counts long-form videos and Shorts separately and gives them their own lead times.

Can I add the plan to Google Calendar?

Yes. Download the calendar file (.ics) and import it into Google Calendar, Outlook or Apple Calendar. Each upload is an all-day event, and you can include the script, shoot and edit days too. The CSV opens in Excel or Google Sheets if you prefer a spreadsheet.
