Views and engaged views since 24 August 2026
YouTube now counts a view as soon as a video starts to play, and keeps the older count as engaged views. Impressions click-through rate, average view duration and retention are still based on engaged views, and Partner Program eligibility still uses qualified views. So use the figure YouTube Studio shows for each metric, and do not expect views divided by impressions to equal your CTR.

About the YouTube Channel Growth Calculator
Four calculators for the numbers in YouTube Studio: when you reach a subscriber goal at your usual pace, or the monthly gain a target date needs; how many watch hours your views and average view duration add up to, and the views a watch-hour target needs; how many views your impressions and click-through rate bring; and what an upload plan adds up to in a month and a year. It is simple arithmetic on the numbers you enter, worked out in your browser.
How it works
-
Step 1
Choose a tab: subscriber goal, watch hours, impressions and CTR, or upload plan.
-
Step 2
Enter the numbers from YouTube Studio, or click "Try an example" to fill every tab with a sample channel.
-
Step 3
Read the result as it updates, and change one number at a time to see what makes the most difference.
Watch hours and the Partner Program
Watch hours are views multiplied by the average view duration: 18,000 views watched for 4 minutes 30 seconds on average is 1,350 hours. The YouTube Partner Program counts public watch hours from long-form videos and archived live streams in the last 12 months: 3,000 for fan funding and 4,000 for ad revenue, or 8,000 in 365 days for new ad revenue applicants from 1 February 2027. Shorts watch hours do not count.
Views, engaged views and CTR
Since 24 August 2026, YouTube counts a view as soon as a video starts to play, and keeps the older count as engaged views. Impressions click-through rate and average view duration are still based on engaged views, so views divided by impressions no longer equals your CTR. YouTube says half of all channels and videos have an impressions CTR between 2% and 10%.
What this tool cannot do
It does straight-line arithmetic on the numbers you enter. Real growth goes up and down, and no calculator can promise subscribers or views. It does not sign in to YouTube or read your analytics; YouTube Studio shows your exact figures, and YouTube decides who joins the Partner Program.
Frequently asked questions
How do I work out watch hours from views?
Multiply engaged views by the average view duration in minutes and divide by 60. For example, 18,000 views at 4 minutes 30 seconds is 1,350 hours. Average view duration is based on engaged views, so use those if YouTube Studio shows both. Only public long-form watch hours from the last 12 months count towards the Partner Program.
What is a good click-through rate on YouTube?
YouTube says half of all channels and videos have an impressions CTR between 2% and 10%. New channels and videos with fewer than 100 views can show a wider range, and videos with many impressions, such as from the home page, tend to have a lower CTR. Read impressions and CTR together rather than chasing one number.
How many views do I need for 4,000 watch hours?
It depends on how long people watch. At an average view duration of 4 minutes, 4,000 hours is 60,000 views; at 8 minutes, 30,000. The calculator works it out from your own average view duration and the views you already have. From 1 February 2027, new applicants for ad revenue need 8,000 hours in 365 days.
Why do my views not match impressions times CTR?
Since 24 August 2026, YouTube counts views from the moment a video starts to play, while impressions CTR is still based on engaged views, the older count. Impressions are also not counted on other websites and apps, the YouTube mobile website, or in email and notifications, so a video with a lot of outside traffic can have more views than impressions.
How long will it take to reach 1,000 subscribers?
Divide the subscribers you still need by your usual monthly gain: from 420 at 35 a month, that is about 17 months. Or enter a target date to see the monthly gain it would take. It is a straight-line estimate, not a promise. 1,000 subscribers is the Partner Program level for ad revenue, and 500 the level for fan funding.
