How to use the Size Chart Builder

Read what the guide says

This is the Size Chart Builder.

Make a clear size chart in inches and cm, as an HTML table, CSV or image,

with checks for gaps.

Choose the product type, the size labels and the measurements,

and whether your figures are garment or body measurements. Press Try an example to see a kurti chart.

Or press Try an example to fill in sample details.

Type a figure, or a range such as 32-34, for each size in inches or centimetres,

and choose how the chart shows them.

Fix what the checks flag, then copy the HTML into your product description,

or download the Markdown, CSV or image.

It does not know the right figures for your product and fills in no "standard" sizes: measure your own samples.

It runs in your browser, so nothing you type is uploaded.

How it works

  1. Choose the product type, the size labels and the measurements, and whether your figures are garment or body measurements. Press Try an example to see a kurti chart.

  2. Type a figure, or a range such as 32-34, for each size in inches or centimetres, and choose how the chart shows them.

  3. Fix what the checks flag, then copy the HTML into your product description, or download the Markdown, CSV or image.

About the Size Chart Builder

Pick the product type, your size labels and the measurements to show, say whether the figures are body or garment measurements, and type them in inches or centimetres. The tool converts between the two exactly (1 inch is 2.54 cm) and builds an accessible HTML table to paste into a Shopify or WooCommerce product description, plus Markdown, a CSV and a PNG image for marketplaces that take a size chart picture, with a simple how-to-measure guide and drawing. It checks for missing figures, sizes that do not grow, odd jumps and mixed-up units. It runs in your browser: nothing is uploaded.

Inches, centimetres and rounding

One inch is exactly 2.54 centimetres, the international inch agreed in 1959. The figures you type are kept as you typed them; converted figures are rounded to one decimal place, which is about a millimetre or a tenth of an inch. Choose "Both" to show each figure in inches and centimetres, for example 38 / 96.5.

Body or garment measurements

Body measurements are taken on the person and are often given as a range; garment measurements are taken on the product itself and have one figure for each size. Say which ones your chart uses, as the note under the table does. For garments, give round measurements such as the bust the full way round: a flat width across the front is about half of that. The how-to-measure steps and drawing are our guide.

What this tool cannot do

It does not know the right figures for your product and fills in no "standard" sizes: measure your own samples. The checks are our checklist and can only spot gaps, sizes that do not grow, jumps much bigger than the others and figures that look like the wrong unit. Marketplaces have their own size chart templates and rules in their seller panels; this tool does not state them, so check them before you upload.

Frequently asked questions

Is the size chart table accessible?

Yes. The HTML has a caption that names the chart, a header row of column headers and each size as a row header, using th cells with scope, as the W3C's table tutorials describe. Screen readers can then read each figure with its size and measurement.

How do I add the chart to a Shopify product?

Copy the HTML. Shopify's product descriptions use its rich text editor, which has an HTML view where you can add a table. Paste the code there and save. In other shops, use the code or HTML view of the description editor, or download the image instead.

Should I give body or garment measurements?

Either works if you say which. Body measurements tell a buyer which size matches their own measurements; garment measurements give the size of the product itself, which helps with loose or fitted styles. Do not mix them in one chart. On a body chart the tool labels length as a garment measurement.

Why does the tool say my bust figures look like a flat width?

Garment charts usually give round measurements the full way round. If you measured the garment flat across the front, that is about half the round, so a 40 inch kurti shows as 20. Double the flat figures, or say clearly in the note that they are flat widths.

Are my measurements uploaded?

No. Everything runs in your browser. Your draft, including the figures, is saved on this device so you can come back to it, and nothing is sent to us or to any marketplace.
