About the Payment Receipt Maker

Type who paid you, the amount, what it is for and how they paid, and get a clean payment receipt for a full payment, a part payment with the balance left, or an advance. The receipt shows the amount in figures and in words (lakh and crore), can carry a UPI QR code for the balance, and prints on A4 or A5, or saves as a PDF through your browser's print window. It runs in your browser: your business details, the next receipt number and a log of your receipts stay in this browser.

How it works

  1. Step 1

Fill in your business once: name, address, phone, UPI ID and logo. They are kept in this browser for next time.

  2. Step 2

Type who paid, the amount, what it is for and how they paid. For a part payment or an advance, add the total due and anything paid before.

  3. Step 3

Check the receipt and the notes, choose Print or save as PDF, then start the next receipt. Each printed receipt goes into a log you can download as a CSV file.

What goes on a payment receipt

A payment receipt records that you received money: your name and contact details, a receipt number and date, who paid, the amount in figures and words, what it was for, how it was paid (with the UPI reference or cheque number) and your signature. For a part payment it also shows the total due, what was paid before and the balance left. The layout and fields here are our suggestion. The Indian Stamp Act, 1899 counts any note or writing that acknowledges money received as a receipt.

Cash, stamps and GST

Section 269ST of the Income-tax Act, 1961 does not allow receiving ₹2 lakh or more in cash from one person in a day, for one transaction or for one event; the Income-tax Act, 2025 applies from 1 April 2026, so ask your CA about the rule now. Article 53 of Schedule I to the Indian Stamp Act, 1899 charges stamp duty on a receipt for more than ₹5,000, with exemptions; the tool can leave a box for a revenue stamp. A GST-registered business that receives an advance issues a receipt voucher under section 31(3)(d) of the CGST Act, with the details Rule 50 lists, such as the rate and amount of tax; this tool does not make one.

What this tool cannot do

It makes a plain payment receipt, not a tax invoice, bill of supply or GST receipt voucher, and it does not work out GST. It cannot tell you whether a UPI or bank payment arrived: check your bank or UPI app. The receipts log lives only in this browser, so download it as a CSV file to keep a copy. It is not tax or legal advice: check with your CA.

Frequently asked questions

How do I make a payment receipt?

Type your business name, who paid you, the amount, what it is for and how they paid, then choose Print or save as PDF. In the print window, choose "Save as PDF" as the printer to get a PDF you can send by WhatsApp or email. The amount in words is filled in for you.

How do I show a part payment and the balance?

Choose Part, then type the total due and anything paid before this payment. The receipt shows the total due, what was paid before, this payment and the balance left. Add your UPI ID and tick the QR option to print a QR code for the balance.

Can I take a large payment in cash?

Section 269ST of the Income-tax Act, 1961 does not allow receiving ₹2 lakh or more in cash from one person in a day, for one transaction, or for one event or occasion. The Income-tax Act, 2025 applies from 1 April 2026, so ask your CA about the rule now in force. The tool warns you when a cash receipt is ₹2 lakh or more.

Is a payment receipt the same as a GST invoice?

No. A payment receipt only records money received. A GST-registered business issues a tax invoice for a taxable supply, and a receipt voucher under section 31(3)(d) of the CGST Act when it receives an advance. Use the GST Invoice Generator for a tax invoice, and ask your CA about receipt vouchers.

Where is the receipts log kept?

In this browser only. Each receipt you print, or move past with "Start the next receipt", is added to the log with its number, date, payer and amount. Download the log as a CSV file to open it in a spreadsheet, and clear it when you no longer need it.
