About the LinkedIn About Section Builder
Fill in the parts of a good About section: a hook, who you help, how, proof, your services or skills, and a call to action with your contact. Pick one of three structures, the first or third person, and English or Hinglish for the connecting lines. You get the text ready to paste, counted against the 2,600 characters LinkedIn's Talent Blog gives, a profile preview with the lines shown before "see more" (our estimate), keyword coverage and checks, plus a shorter overview for your Company Page. Written templates, not AI. It runs in your browser and never signs in to LinkedIn.
What LinkedIn says
LinkedIn's Talent Blog gives 2,600 characters for the About section, and LinkedIn's Pages course on LinkedIn Learning gives 2,000 characters for a Company Page overview. LinkedIn Help says skills are among the most common searches by recruiters, and that an extended list of keywords may get a profile filtered out by spam detection, so the tool counts how often each keyword appears. LinkedIn's Professional Community Policies ask for accurate information about your qualifications, experience and achievements, so keep only proof you can show.
Three structures, two voices
Story opens with your hook, then who you are, who you help and how, your proof, your services and the next step. Problem and solution puts how you help straight after the hook and leaves who you are for the end. Short and scannable uses headings and lists. The first person reads as "I"; the third person uses your name, as a team page might. The Hinglish connecting lines avoid verbs that change with gender, so they fit anyone, and what you type stays in your own words. For a full profile in another language, LinkedIn Help says you can add one from a computer and translate it yourself.
What this tool cannot do
LinkedIn does not publish where it cuts the About section with "see more", so the preview is our estimate of about three lines, and it changes with screen size and app version. Characters are counted as you see them, with each line break as one; LinkedIn does not say how it counts. The keyword measure looks for each phrase as typed, so it misses other forms of a word. The checks on hooks, paragraphs and calls to action are our checklist, not LinkedIn rules, and the tool does not sign in to LinkedIn.
Frequently asked questions
How long can a LinkedIn About section be?
LinkedIn's Talent Blog gives 2,600 characters. This tool counts characters as you see them, so an emoji or a Hindi syllable counts once and each line break counts as one. If you turn on bold headings, each styled letter takes two storage units, and the tool warns you when that could push the text over.
How much of my About section shows before "see more"?
LinkedIn does not publish it. Our estimate is about three lines: roughly 42 characters a line on a phone and 92 on a computer. That is why the hook comes first: one or two short sentences that give the reader a reason to keep going. The preview shows both cuts.
Should I write my About section in the first or third person?
Either works; choose the one that matches how you speak to clients. The first person ("I help…") feels direct for a founder or freelancer. The third person uses your name, which suits a bio that a team shares. The tool warns when your own lines say "I" in a third person version.
Which keywords should I put in my About section?
The words a client or recruiter would type in LinkedIn search: your job title, your services and your city. LinkedIn Help says standard job titles are what members search for, and warns that an extended list of keywords may get a profile filtered out by spam detection. Use each keyword in a real sentence, a few times at most.
What is the difference between the About section and a Company Page overview?
The About section is on your personal profile and is about you. The overview is on your business's LinkedIn Page and is about the business, written as "we". LinkedIn's Pages course on LinkedIn Learning gives 2,000 characters for it. The tool writes both from the same parts, so the facts match.
