About the YouTube Link Tools

Paste a YouTube video link or its 11-character ID, and add a start or end time if you want one. The tool makes the watch link and the short youtu.be link, embed code with the player options from YouTube's developer docs, including privacy-enhanced mode, links to the video's thumbnail images, your channel link and a QR code. It runs in your browser and never signs in to YouTube or uses its API.

How it works

  1. Step 1

Paste the video link from YouTube's Share button, the address bar or a Shorts page, or the video ID.

  2. Step 2

Add a start or end time, choose the embed options, and add your channel handle if you want the channel link.

  3. Step 3

Copy the link or embed code you need, or download the QR code as PNG or SVG.

Embed options from YouTube's docs

The embed code uses YouTube's documented player parameters: start and end in seconds, autoplay, controls, loop, captions by default with a caption language, and rel=0. Since 25 September 2018 related videos cannot be turned off; rel=0 limits them to the same channel as the video. YouTube recommends 16:9 players at least 480 × 270 pixels, and says autoplayed embeds do not add to the view count.

Privacy-enhanced mode

With privacy-enhanced mode the embed loads from youtube-nocookie.com instead of youtube.com. YouTube says views of the embedded video are then not used to personalise the viewer's YouTube browsing, and ads are non-personalised. It applies to embeds on websites only, and if a viewer clicks through to another site, that site may track them.

What this tool cannot do

It builds links from the ID you give and never contacts YouTube, so it cannot tell whether the video exists, is public or allows embedding. Thumbnail links follow the pattern in YouTube's own examples, and the standard and maximum sizes exist only for some videos. It leaves out deprecated parameters such as modestbranding and showinfo, which no longer have any effect, and mute, which is not a documented parameter.

Frequently asked questions

How do I share a YouTube video from a certain time?

In YouTube, open Share, tick "Start at" and enter the time, such as 2:30. Or paste the video link here with a start time, and the tool makes a watch link and a short link that start there. Open the link once to check it starts at the right moment before you share it.

How do I make a YouTube embed start at a certain time?

Add start= and the time in seconds to the embed address: 1:30 is start=90. The tool does this when you enter a start time, and adds end= if the video should stop at a set point. The end time is counted from the start of the video, not from your start time.

Can I hide the YouTube logo or related videos in an embed?

No. The modestbranding and showinfo parameters that once changed the logo and title are deprecated and have no effect. Related videos cannot be turned off since 25 September 2018; with rel=0, they come from the same channel as the video.

Why does my embedded video not autoplay?

Browsers may block autoplay with sound until the visitor interacts with the page, so an autoplay embed can still wait for a click. YouTube also says embedded videos that play automatically do not add to the video's view count. Our suggestion for most business pages: let visitors press play.

What sizes are YouTube thumbnail images?

YouTube's developer docs list five: default 120 × 90, medium 320 × 180, high 480 × 360, standard 640 × 480 and maxres 1280 × 720 pixels. Standard and maxres exist only for some videos. If you are making your own thumbnail, check it with our Image Size Checker first.
